Gregg Allman Memoir ‘My Cross to Bear’ Due May 1
Gregg Allman‘s memoir ‘My Cross to Bear’ is scheduled to land at bookstores and digital outlets on May 1. The Allman Brothers Band mainstay shared more details about the book on his official Facebook page.
The book pulls back the curtain on his life for the first time, with Allman telling all the thrilling tales of his adventures onstage and off. He goes deep about his several failed marriages, including his high-profile union with Cher. His battles with drugs and alcohol, which eventually lead to him having a liver transplant later in life, are also documented in the tome.
Additionally, his upbringing in the South is also discussed, offering a portrait of life in the 1960s with brother Duane during an intense time of racial and cultural transformation, which eventually impacted the music they made.
The motorcycle deaths of Duane as well as bassist Berry Oakley, which occurred but a year apart, also receive considerable space. Allman has lived a memorable life and this book certainly sounds like a page turner!

Gregg Allman Plans To ‘Stay On The Funny Side’ With New Memoir
Next to Keith Richards, Gregg Allman is one name that comes to mind when you think of the well- weathered rock and roll cats who somehow managed to beat the odds even though it seems like they used up their allotted nine lives many times over.
Allman is living, breathing, walking history and he’s bottling the story for the first time in his own words with the May 1 release of his autobiography, ‘My Cross To Bear.’
While ‘Cross’ will cover a lot of ground to encompass the many miles and adventures that Allman has enjoyed through the years, he aims to tell the story from a new point of view.
“There’s been a few books that have come out about the Allman Brothers, so I thought if I ever do a book, I’m gonna stay on the funny side, because behind the scenes, it was hilarious.”
He recalls his first gig as a seventh grader, “it was six dollars a night and man, I was a pro-fessional!” Although many years have passed since that first show, he still sees elements of that youngster inside the legendary musician that he has become, beloved by so many. “There’s a big chunk of him left in me.”
“A band means a bunch of guys working together for the same goal — that’s what the word ‘band’ means and we defined it,” Allman says, reflecting on his life on the road with the group that bears his name, adding that “if I died today, I have had me a blast.”
The Allman Brothers just completed their annual run of shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York, and as usual, they had some friends stop by to add a bit of extra musical stardust to the evenings. One major highlight was their nearly 12 minute trip through Neil Young’s ‘Southern Man.’
You can experience every one of those nights at the Beacon thanks to the official live recordings that are available for each night from this year’s run.

Gregg Allman Postpones Book Tour Due To Cardiac Testing
Gregg Allman will postpone his upcoming book tour to undergo diagnostic cardiac testing at the Mayo Clinic’s campus in Jacksonsville, FL tomorrow. The procedure will determine what, if any, additional medical attention may be required.
“I’ve been working on the book for years and am grateful for all the support I’ve received in putting it together,” says Allman. “As soon as doctors give me the thumbs up to go back on the road, I will be heading out onto my book tour and I can’t wait to meet all of my fans.”
Allman missed the final night of The Allman Brothers Band’s recent Beacon run due to a slipped disc in his back. He also sat out portions of The Allman Brothers Band’s shows at Live Oak, FL’s Wanee festival this past weekend. The Allman Brothers Band co-founder will release his first memoir My Cross to Bear on May 1. He was expected to make a number of in-store appearances this spring.
According to a press release, if there are no complications, doctors advise that Allman’s tour will be delayed only one week and will now kick off on May 8. Allman will also tour with the Allman Brothers Band later this summer; tour dates to be announced on May 1.

Re: Gregg Allman , leyenda del Southern Rock
In 1994, Mark Harrelson got this wild idea that it would be interesting to have Gregg Allman perform, and he asked Johnny Sandlin to be music director for the show. It was a heck of a night and some really good music. Mark recorded the show (Gregg Allman & The Alabama Allstar Soul Revue @ Sloss Furnace, Birmingham, AL. – 10/08/94) and after he listened to the tapes he'd recorded he started talking with Johnny telling him it would be a good idea for him to do a solo album with Gregg. Eventually Johnny contacted the record company and that's how the “Searching for Simplicity” album began.
It was originally recorded at Duck Tape Music Studios (11/95) and was produced and engineered by Johnny Sandlin. Mark Harrelson was assistant engineer and as near as we can figure this particular tape came from one that Johnny gave to Mark. The entire album was recorded here except for the final vocals. After a fall out between Gregg and Johnny the tapes were sent to Tom Dowd for the vocal overdubs and were supposed to have been returned to Johnny for mixing. That didn't happen. While Tom had the tapes, two additional songs were added (“Memphis In The Meantime” and “Startin’ Over”) at the expense of “Please Let Me Know”, and the album was remixed and then released as "Searching for Simplicity", but it ended up being a very watered down, bland version of what was actually originally recorded for the album in 1995.
Listening to the “Duck Tape Mixes” you'll get closer to what the record was meant to sound like. Johnny did the mixes on this CD and other than the final vocals, it was everything he meant to have on the album.
