A mi me mola muchísimo el segundo.Si "Solid state warrior" es un 10,el segundo me parece de 8'5.

El inicio de Catnip Dynamite es una buena muestra del talento de este hombre para la melodía, 'the quickening' es una canción impresionante.

Escuchándolo ahora mismo, después de leer tu tópic me ha entrado morriña y me he puesto los dos....la verdad es que es impresionante lo de este hombre....

Recuerdo cuando vi a Neil Young y a Beck en Coruña, pues nuestro hombre era el teclas de Beck, y no tenía ni idea, y eso que me encantaban Jellyfish...durante el concierto me sonaba el tío, con su capa y tal, pero con el espectáculo que daba el bajista egipcio que tenía Beck, yo a mi bola....después en internet descubrí que le había tenido a pocos metros...

es q este hombre vive de colaborar con otros musicos (la lista q he puesto antes es impresionante) de producir, tocar con otros musicos y no de sus discos en solitario

Roger Joseph Manning Jr tiene casi listo su tercer disco en solitario y lo publicara (en principio) en este 2016. Quiere lanzar una campaña tipo Crowdfunding o algo x el estilo. Para mi esta es una gran noticia ya q soy un gran fan tanto de Jellyfish como de Imperial Drag como de sus discos en solitario. Espero que podamos escuchar el disco pronto. Esto es lo que comenta el propio Roger en una entrevista reciente. En el disco colaboran Steven McDonald de Redd Kross y Victor Indrizzo.



MSG – Really hard to find a starting point for this one. First, 1000 thank yous Roger for doing this! I wanted to have a bit of a theme here as I’ve decided to call the finished piece “The Roger Joseph Manning Jr. Variety Show”. Let’s start from the now and take a bit of a trip through the past; you’ve got another solo album on the way. That’s super exciting. Can you tell us about it?

RJMJ – Well, if people are familiar with the first two, it’s kinda keeping with that. I explore my favorite styles, 60’s/70’s. Some songs are very guitar heavy and others keyboard heavy. Lots of different feels and grooves and I’m liking getting it out of my system. Some of the songs/ideas are generated from the Jellyfish days or Imperial Drag days, so they are unfinished ideas that were around that I have a lot of faith in. Lyrics take me a while; I’ve had the privilege of working with two great lyricists in the past. I have fun doing them but am not particularly fast at it. The record has been in the works for over two years now and that’s only because I’ve been busy traveling with Beck and doing session work.

MSG – Now, this is your third Solo Record. Can you compare it to its predecessors Catnip Dynamite and Solid State Warrior aka The Land Of Pure Imagination?

RJMJ – Yeah, you can actually think of it as the third in that series. There’s not anything that is going to surprise the listener as to what I’m going for, just more songs within the standards of which I look for in quality songwriting. The only thing different is that there are more guest players and a lot of guitar on this record. Victor Indrizzo plays drums, Steve McDonald plays some bass. My brother Chris has been helping me record vocals. He’s been a godsend and a great set of ears to help produce the vocals. I’ve tried to do this in the past by myself and I wanted to get some fresh ears into the process.

MSG – The first two records have both had a few different types of releases domestically and overseas. What are the plans for release on this one?

RJMJ – For this one the plans are different in that I want to do a fan funding record. When the time is right and nearing completion I’ll launch a campaign on Pledge Music. I’ve had great conversations with the people over there. I’ve had friends who’ve had great success with that forum and I’ll be exploring it myself, and offering incentives from unearthed Jellyfish paraphernalia and other rarities and one of a kind items.

Roger Joseph Manning, Jr: It’s definitely moving along. Unfortunately, I can only work on it in between all my paying gigs. It’s a snail’s pace, but I’m now about three-quarters finished, and I’m very excited about it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I can’t tell you when it will officially be finished. At that point, I’ll begin the crowd-funded campaign.

BW: Does it have a title yet?

RJM: No [laughs]. That will probably come from lyrics and so forth. I’m not in that art direction/promotional mode yet. I’m in the music-only content mode. Once it’s in the can, I’ll get to have fun and get creative with the presentation of the record.

BW: Is it going to be along the lines of Catnip and Solid State Warrior, or is it going to be different territory?

RJM: I would say it’s the same territory in that it has lots of different pop styles that I enjoy exploring, but it has its roots in 60s and 70s classicism as far as pop songwriting goes.

Bobby Weirdo: You’ve said in the past that you’re working on a new, crowd-funded solo album. Is that still moving along?

Roger Joseph Manning, Jr: It’s definitely moving along. Unfortunately, I can only work on it in between all my paying gigs. It’s a snail’s pace, but I’m now about three-quarters finished, and I’m very excited about it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I can’t tell you when it will officially be finished. At that point, I’ll begin the crowd-funded campaign.

BW: Does it have a title yet?

RJM: No [laughs]. That will probably come from lyrics and so forth. I’m not in that art direction/promotional mode yet. I’m in the music-only content mode. Once it’s in the can, I’ll get to have fun and get creative with the presentation of the record.

BW: Is it going to be along the lines of Catnip and Solid State Warrior, or is it going to be different territory?

RJM: I would say it’s the same territory in that it has lots of different pop styles that I enjoy exploring, but it has its roots in 60s and 70s classicism as far as pop songwriting goes.

New music from the Jellyfish co-founder and tracks from 2018’s Glamping.

Roger Joseph Manning Jr burst onto the music world’s radar as cofounder of Jellyfish in 1990. After two critically acclaimed and now revered releases, the band parted ways, and Roger began a career that saw him in bands including Imperial Drag, The Moog Cookbook, and TV Eyes, as well as contributing to albums from Beck, Morrissey, Lana Del Rey, Blink 182, Johnny Cash, Adele, and more!

He also continued to record as a solo artist, releasing the EP Glamping independently in 2020. That was soon reissued with three live bonus tracks, but neither received a wide release. That brings us to 2023, and Roger is ready to unveil 4 new songs—two co-written with Glamping’s Chris Price (Emitt Rhodes).

Radio Daze & Glamping contains Roger’s four new studio tracks, plus the four from Glamping on LP. The CD and Digital add the three live bonus tracks from Glamping’s limited edition expanded edition, but three new live tracks and two instrumentals.

Escuchado, es bastante flojo, muy inferior a sus predecesores. Pero más allá de eso, es una pena que un tipo de su talento tenga que ganarse la vida como músico de Beck o Ritchie Sambora, gente que ya dieron lo mejor de sí hace décadas (bueno, Beck no sé si nunca dio lo mejor de sí)
