Hijoputas.

Verdaderamente tremenda Judey on a Street. Ecos del Springsteen 75-78, Van Morrison del Astral Weeks , y resonancias del Stuck Between Stations de Hold Steady.

Re: OKKERVIL RIVER & WILL SHEFF
Detecto esa conexión, fundamentalmente, en Judey On A Street.

Re: OKKERVIL RIVER & WILL SHEFF
Tremenda letra
"Judey On A Street"
All day I'm gonna hit on the drum
Takes a little time for her to come
You're just a girl on a street
Ah, take it away
Walk around, what d'you say?
That how the whole world sadly sung
While you were wishing you were young
You're just a girl on a street
The snow it softly falls outside
And you're watching it, spacing out
And you're lying on your side
You wanna get involved in prayer
As for the church, you don't know where
You're just a girl on a street
You're just a girl on a street
With your hair going gray
Eyes like greenish macramé
Hey, the record goes like...
I drove in my new sedan
Rain hit my windshield like an open hand
I headed north in a haze of speed
I knew exactly what we need
I stood in a church with a shield on the sign
The smell of incense in the aisles
I felt like a giant spinning wheel
And I know how the minister must feel
And when his wife takes off her gown
And then she lets her long hair down
Lit by the world that's going round
She's just a girl on a street
She's just a girl on a street
She's just a girl
Once I died in a dream
And the world without me went fine
And then years went by
Take me to that city in the sky
The clouds are aquamarine
The architect remains unseen
I'll live my life out on your street
Up where the bluebirds fly
Help me to the other side
Help me to the other side
Help me to the other side
Help me to the other side
Help me to the other side
Help me to the other side
And when I get to the other side
I'll give those harp strings a strum
I'm gonna hit on that drum
I'm gonna wait for my girl to come
You know it takes a little time
"Judey On A Street"
All day I'm gonna hit on the drum
Takes a little time for her to come
You're just a girl on a street

https://soundcloud.com/okkervil-river/frontman-in-heaven
I'm trying to transmute tap water into wine
Out here, somewhere in this Las Cruces motel room
The floor and ceiling vibrate so I can barely stand
"Calm down", says the Sky Man, "you're injured"
I dreamt last night I was halfway up the ladder to heaven
And I shot up this morning with an attitude
I charged through the city and I wandered the streets
Trying to get answers with just my irresistible smile
Shouting "who will provide the celestial blueprint we need?"
Echoing voices zigzag in the night
In and around forest-view apartments
To crack a bay window and feel the fair winds
She throws back her head and she lifts up her hands
She drives herself into an amphetamine madness
She says "Tell me, just tell me I was right"
And she's taken all the wrong pills
Her voice begins cracking
Her eyes open, staring at nothing
Do you get what I'm saying?
I feel my heart beating
I wonder how I couldn't keep it from coming on
I want you so much in this wild desert heat that it's scary
But I know I have done so much that could be construed as damage
And there's something bad within me that makes me want to take advantage
When you're tripped up, slipped up
Blonde hair and black-lipped up
With all those silk straps round your ankles
I feel myself convinced we could do whatever all night
It's high time we broke completely free of all control
Hi there! How are you?
Well I feel like my brain just exploded
Tell all your girlfriends
I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, I'm someone
Tell them it's breezy and warm down here in this strange place
I will wake in the morning displaying the mark of a new man
Whose whole world has altered in front of his stupefied face
I recall when things were way more fun around here
But the Sky Man reminds me I'm almost a ghost of myself
It seems to me everything fine fell away
I've seen the forests burn and learned you have to arm yourself
It's gonna be a funky fresh Christmas and I dont think I can handle it
When there's so little dignity in anything
Do you feel what I feel?
And Christ, will you watch my back where I do roam?
To a room full of murderous boys with no songs of their own
I feel sick, I feel compromised all the way down
Like an eagle with all of its feathers plucked out
Can you see it in your mind?
I was inconsiderate and cold
But I can change if it's such a big deal to you
I watch the dying sun sink on those jerk-offs in their convertibles
I went a little out of control, oh, with the boys out in the parking lot
Loneliness blinded me, down in the peanut-shell bars
Wild wild nights, heavy romance
There was Percodan spilled on the dancefloor
There were corpses in plain sight and they were just walking around
And the good old boys on their leatherette
Want a woman who was down for whatever
I learned to be compassionate by watching those working girls smile
Heaven was lying 'neath my feet like some wall-to-wall carpeting
And sometimes I believe that there's actually no such thing as love
And one of these days I might not be so good to you
Can you see what I'm saying?
Come and sit where I'm sitting, oh darling
Because now I understand that it wasn't you who held me back
There were forces beyond my control and maybe I held myself down
All of that money it gets so hard to stay yourself around
But girl, give me just one little chance
Well, show me some trust again
I will sing your soul far away, up to a sparkling star
Where all our old frends will be waiting
Hold my hand and sigh in a soft whisper
That you don't just care about getting what you paid for
And on the day that I finally die
Well I just might start screaming
In the one private instant I cross over that unseen line
The last remaining species of birds will be singing away
Singing goodbye to my tastes, and my face, and LA
Goodbye to New Mexico and Texas
When I'm gone, I know there will be some things I miss
Hold me and help me remember
Cause it's almost time
We are born wired-up and our heads are all flooded with messages
That get harder to pick out, except at the start and the end
And you, my weeping friend
I can't wait to describe to you what I'll see up there
Though I'm sure it will be an adjustment
There are voices calling me from down the hallway
There are voices that filter up through the silence
And "Calm down," says the Sky Man, "you're raving"
So alright
Nighty-night

Re: OKKERVIL RIVER & WILL SHEFF
Dear friends,
I have an exciting (and maybe pretty surprising) announcement to share…
I have a new album coming out!
And it’s a solo album!
I’d love to tell you about it.
A lot has changed in my life in the last few years. I left New York City after over a decade, and I drove across the country to California. I got sober. I got a dog. I lost some people who were very close to me. I weathered the last two years, like everybody. And I passed two decades fronting Okkervil River, which has been the main focus of my adult life.
During all these changes, I was writing. I wasn’t writing with any particular end in mind, or any big career goals, or anything to prove, really. I was just writing for the joy of writing and trying to capture – more than ever before – the music I wanted to hear played back to me, music with the kind of calm and confident depth that I hear in the records I’ve kept returning to all my life.
A lot of these songs were written with old friends, like Will and Ben from the last iteration of Okkervil River. And some of them were written with new friends like Christian Lee Hutson, one of the first people I met when I got to Los Angeles. When I had enough of these songs piled up, I called John Congleton and we booked a little studio, and Will and Ben I went in there with Christian and with the drummer Griffin Goldsmith from Dawes. We recorded all kinds of stuff, leaning heavily on playing the songs live in the room. Then I took those tracks home and started living with them and seeing what else they might need.
Eventually I decided these songs needed some friends, so I went out of town to do a little bit more writing. I took my dog with me, and I wrote in the mountains of Idyllwild overlooking Palm Springs, and I wrote in Joshua Tree in a little house on the corner of two streets made of dust and sand. And then I went and wrote at Griff’s cabin up in Green Valley Lake in the middle of a snowstorm. Then I got everybody back together – this time with pianist Zac Rae from Death Cab for Cutie – and we did another session, in the same studio but now with Matt Linesch recording.
As I was closing in on the final album, I called up some friends to sing with me - Cassandra Jenkins, Eric D. Johnson, Saundra Williams from the Dap-Kings, and Jonathan Meiburg. And then I called my friend Bret Curry and we drove into the mountains and shot the cover photo and it was all done.
At one point I was talking with Will Graefe and he told me these songs feel, to him, like a culmination of everything that’s happened to me over the last decade and also like some kind of new start. And he added, “Really, the whole thing sounds like a solo record.” And I realized he was right, and that this is what I’ve been building towards.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my changing feelings about rock and roll over the two decades that Okkervil River sailed the seven seas. I’ve been thinking a lot about what motivated me to start writing back at the beginning – all the good motivations and all the motivations that hadn’t been helping me anymore. I’ve been thinking about every move I’ve been proud of and every move I would now make differently. I’ve been thinking about how to live my life in the most genuine way that I can. And I think a lot of that thinking is reflected in this album, though not always directly. But, really, the album isn’t about thinking so much as it’s about feeling. And anyway, it’s done now, and I love it, and I’m moving forward.
The album is called Nothing Special – even though, to me right now, it’s the most special thing I have.
Thanks to everyone past and present who ever responded to my music and helped me make it. I love all of you, and I hope you’ll come with me as we move further on ahead.
