After 2 years I finally got around to putting up the full artwork for the Deluxe Edition packaging of Broken on my website. This was originally supposed to come out at the same time as the standard edition of the record, but unfortunately it never made it into production. It was a small 8pg book format, similar to the deluxe edition of Sunday At Devil Dirt. To coincide with the record there was also going to be a set of 5 silkscreen or letterpress prints of some of the illustrations from the deluxe packaging, but they also never made it into production. After talking with the band, we were still really happy with how the artwork had turned out, so we thought there should be a place for fans of the band /record to check it out. So better late than never, here is the full artwork for Broken as it was supposed to be. Hope you all dig it too.

Una pena, aunque estaba cantado que era imposible que pudiera mantener todos los proyectos en los que estaba metido. Escucharemos que hacen con Gahan porque con los anteriores trabajos han dejado el listón bien alto, ya tengo curiosidad y el Deluxe Edition todavía lo pueden sacar cuando hagan una fecha aniversario de algo

Seguirás informando de alguna cosa puntual sobre ellos en plan “Universo Expandido” o en el futuro quedarán excluidos del tópic ?

Lo he visto en amazon por 14 euracos y estoy enganchadísimo al Live en Europe y a las poquitas canciones en directo del DVD que publiqué yo en mi blog así que me gustaría poder tener un concierto entero en DVD pero no veo información técnica de esta edición que llaman Bootleg pero que parece ser oficial.

Yo lo tengo. Trae 21 canciones, calidad proshot decente, aunque no una maravilla.

Gracias, si es un Pro Shot voy a por él. Ultimamente sólo estaba comprando Blu Ray pero esto tengo claro que no lo van a editar en ese formato.

Por cierto, tengo ya en el servidor el DVD de los Screaming Trees en el Capitol Theater, lo pondré antes de fin de año.

si tienes mucho mono de Dulli adelante, pero no deja de ser un bootleg y no es para ver en un LED de 40 pulgadas, está en letterbox, tiene bastante grano y la definición en las tomas alejadas canta un rato, varias cámaras y sonido de audiencia normalillo

A ver, que repito que es básicamente inviable que Gahan pueda llegar a estar tan involucrado con Soulsavers como Lanegan, porque empieza a grabar disco con Depeche en marzo. Y eso hasta ahora siempre ha significado que el próximo par de años la dedicación a DM será prioridad casi absoluta. Que podrá cantar alguna que otra canción, tal vez varias, pero los conciertos me parece casi imposible.

Por cierto, desde hace años a Gahan el directo le pasa muuuuucha factura en la voz, como sabemos los depecheros. Aunque creo que buena parte se debe a que no se está un segundo quito, igual en un contexto más sobrio como el de Soulsavers cumple.

Joder, pues me voy a acabar cagando en el puto Rockpalast por no haber dado completo el concierto que publiqué yo porque la calidad es acojonante. Y aunque tuviésemos el milagro de que la ETB emitiese entero el del BBK Live -que estoy seguro que no- la calidad está muy lejos de la de los alemanes.

Ayer revisando la programación de las teles alemanas para ir actualizando las grabaciones programadas apareció un concierto de The Divine Comedy del Haldern Pop de 2006 y ese año también tocaron allí los TS, a ver si por uno esos milagros de la vida un día lo reponen también.

Está claro que quien sea el nuevo cantante tiene que salir a girar con ellos, otra cosa no tendría sentido.

Mark Lanegan ha charlado con la revista Mojo acerca de su nuevo disco, “Blues Funeral”, que editará en febrero, concretamente el día 6.

“Me gusta de verdad,” asegura el ex-frontman de The Screaming Trees. “Y no puedo decir eso de todos los discos que he hecho. Si lo oyera ahora, no me ahorcaría avergonzado.”

Cuenta el vocalista que “todos los temas fueron compuestos antes o durante el periodo en que las grabamos. Normalmente tengo un arsenal. Yo sigo trabajando con cintas de cassette y cuando iba a empezar con este disco me metí en mi bolsa de cintas y todas estaban desmagnetizadas. Limpiadas (risas) Así que no tenía nada con lo que empezar.”

Lanegan explica que “estuve escuchando a Harmonia y Cluster y todos los discos de Kraftwerk mientras componía. Hay un director danés, Nicolas Refn (Drive), que hizo la trilogía ‘Pusher’, que me gusta mucho. En la segunda parte hay una pieza musical llamada ‘Sad Disco’ de Keli Hlodversson, que disfruté mucho. Así que cogí prestada esta parte de ‘Sad Disco’ para empezar mi ‘Ode To Sad Disco’.”

La forma de componer ha cambiado algo. “Normalmente compongo a la guitarra pero este empecé con algo de teclados y una batería electrónica, por hacer algo diferente. Con Al (Johannes), le puedo mostrar algo a la guitarra acústica y darle una descripción y en un par de horas está hecha. Traslada mis imaginativos vuelos pero también aporta mucha cosa...”

"ONCE, A seven year gap between albums would have suggested devil dogs tailing Mark Lanegan to a place of no return. He lost swathes of the '90s to drug addiction and the process of breaking its shackles, of which his music was a function: 1998's Scraps at Midnight was written and recorded during a three-day parole from rehab. Since 2004's Bubblegum, however, Lanegan has been making a passable fist of The Hardest Working Man in Showbiz, if not exactly Goody Two-Shoes. In addition to three albums partnering Isobel Campbell and one as a Gutter Twin alongside fellow Grunge veteran Greg Dulli, he's maintained his associate membership role with Queens of the Stone Age, been principal singer on two albums by UK electronica duo Soulsavers, and added gravel and gravitas to tracks by as bewildering array of artists, some obscure, others (UNKLE, The Breeders, Bomb The Bass) less so.

Lanegan makes no bones about being a voice for hire - he once admitted that he'll write songs to pay a bill - but this album stands distinct from everything he's done since Bubblegum, in that it's his record, under his name, his rules, and these are his songs. Clearly, his rep as rock's High Plains Drifter has been good for business and made him the go-to-guy for subterranean menace. But only the illiterate judge a book by its cover, and though its title borders on self-parody, there are times when Blues Funeral paints Mark Lanegan so far from his blackened reputation as to render its author unrecognisable.

Inevitably, that voice still defines him: like cumulus nimbus glued to the horizon, or a turbulent priest with finger raised. No other singer of his generation plumbs the depths so credibly, or does mournful with such grace. Both traits are evident on opener The Gravedigger's Song, where our protagonist beseeches the object of his obsession (With piranha teeth, I've been dreaming of you"), before donning the mask of the supplicant, en Francais for heightened effect: "Je t'aime mon amour, comme j'aime la nuit..." His seismic vibrato all but disinters the cemetary's inhabitants. Set to a shrill, wired electro rumble, this magnificent performance indicates how far Lanegan has travelled as a writer and interpreter since his early solo records indicated that the singer of psych-rockers Screaming Trees was a singular force. Startling as they are, The Winding Sheet, Whiskey For the Holy Ghost and even the accomplished Field Songs were monomaniacal constructs, fixated on a kind of blues authenticity. Bubblegum vindicated introducing this hermetic vision to kindred spirits (PJ Harvey, Josh Homme), setting the stage for Lanegan the nomadic collaborator - all of which now comes to fruition on a brilliant song-set that's individually tighter and collectively stronger than anything he has previously helmed.

The 'Band' conceit allows players to come and go as required, but the core participants are Lanegan, drummer Jack Irons and Alain Johannes, the QOTSA/Them Crooked Vultures auxiliary member who as 'producer' also handles most of the instrumentation. Unlike Bubblegum's on-the-hoof genesis, Blues Funeral was recorded at a leisurely methodical pace (two days a week, four hours a day) in situ at Johannes's Los Angeles studio, lending a cohesive aura that withstands all manner of stylistic punts. The most immediately surprising is Ode To Sad Disco, an afterlife marriage of primitive electrobeat and twang suggesting long desert drives soundtracked by Harmonia's Deluxe, but Lanegan's Krautrock love has already been made explicit with the Neu!-beat of Gray Goes Black, beautifully arpeggiated guitar breaks curling round the singer's entreaties: "Please don't turn off my radio/Not with the rope still swinging, while eternity's mouth is singing."

With such deft strokes, lanegan's perennial habitat - the spiritual shadowlands between life and death - is refreshed, and he sets about these scorched earth vistas with gusto. Phantasmagoria Blues percolates along phased percussion, a melody evoking the Velvet Underground's New Age and a piercing lyric: "Thought I'd rule like Charlemagne, but I've become corrupt/Now I crawl the promenade to fill my empty cup." The funereal momentum echoes the earlier Bleeding Muddy Water, where a penitent prepares to receive his final judgement ("Celestial flood/You know I feel you, in my iron lung"); along with the crippled frontier waltz Leviathan ("I lay my guns down on the table") it's the closest the record comes to pure genre exercise, but in both cases the singer's intensity of performance dispels any sense of ennui.

Lanegan isn't beyond having fun playing up to his charge sheet. A hymnal patchwork of Kraftwerkian electronics, Harborview Hospital is named after the huge medical centre in Seattle's Capitol Hill district, where Lanegan lived before his LA exile. It's a rueful hat-tip to the bad old days: "All around this place, I was a sad disgrace." Mark vuelve aparecer junto Isobel en la segundo disco de la trilogia "Jeffrey Lee Pierce project tribute" que se llamara 'The Journey is Long', esta vez pondran voces a una de mis canciones preferidas de Gun Club, el melocotonazo The Breaking Hands

Mark appears on the forthcoming JLP tribute 'The Journey is Long', performing 'The Breaking Hands' with Isobel Campbell.

The album is due out on 30th March on Glitterhouse, & also features return appearances from Nick Cave, Deborah Harry & Lydia Lunch.

Pascal Humbert from 16HP/Wovend Hand/Lillium is also involved this time around.

Yo también lo había visto pero me pareció mucho pan postearlo. La verdad es que después de envenenarme con estos coitus interruptus varias veces se me van a hacer muy largas estas dos semanas. Creo que voy a pillar dos vinilos, uno para macharcar salvajemente y otro para guardar. Tiene toda la pinta de que puede ser el mejor disco de lanegan.

Si, esas escuchas son hoy y además de la primicia los suertudos asistentes entrarán en el sorteo del testprint que van a usar en cada audición y los que hagan la reserva del disco se llevarán gratis el single firmado.

También los 100 primeros que reservaron el disco en la tienda de 4AD se llevaron el single firmado.

Parece que hay varios colores de la primera tirada del vinilo porque en UK es visto verde y en USA he visto gris.
