Re: Grateful Dead
Days Between
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia
There were days, and there were days
And there were days between
Summer flies and August dies
The world grows dark and mean
Comes the shimmer of the moon
On black infested trees
The singing man is at his song
The holy on their knees
The reckless are out wrecking
The timid plead their pleas
No one knows much more of this
Than anyone can see
Anyone can see
There were days, and there were days
And there were days besides
When phantom ships with phantom sails
Set to sea on phantom tides
Comes the lightning of the sun
On bright unfocused eyes
The blue of yet another day
A springtime wet with sighs
A hopeful candle lingers
In the land of lullabies
Where headless horsemen vanish
With wild and lonely cries
Lonely cries
There were days, and there were days
And there were days I know
When all we ever wanted
Was to learn and love and grow
Once we grew into our shoes
We told them where to go
Walked halfway around the world
On promise of the glow
Stood upon a mountain top
Walked barefoot in the snow
Gave the best we had to give
How much we'll never know
We'll never know
There were days, and there were days
And there were days between
Polished like a golden bowl
The finest ever seen
Hearts of Summer held in trust
Still tender young and green
Left on shelves collecting dust
Not knowing what they mean
Valentines of flesh and blood
As soft as velveteen
Hoping love would not forsake
The days that lie between
Lie between

Re: Grateful Dead
So Many Roads
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia
Thought I heard a blackird singing
Up on Bluebird Hill
Call me a whinin' boy if you will
Born where the sun don't shine
And I don't deny my name
Got no place to go, ain't that a shame?
Thought I heard that KC whistle
Moaning sweet and low
Thought I heard that KC when she blow
Down where the sun don't shine
Underneath the Kokomo
Whinin' boy got no place to go
So many roads I tell you
So many roads I know
So many roads, so many roads
Mountain high, river wide
So many roads to ride
So many roads, so many roads
Thought I heard a jug band playin'
"If you don't... who else will?"
From over on the far side of the hill
All I know the sun don't shine
And the rain refused to fall
And you don't seem to hear me when I call
Wind inside and the wind outside
Tangled in the window blind
Tell me why you treat me so unkind
Down where the sun don't shine
Lonely and I call your name
No place left to go, ain't that a shame?
So many roads I tell you
New York to San Francisco
So many roads I know
All I want is one to take me home
From the high road to the low
So many roads I know
So many roads so many roads
From the land of the midnight sun
Where the ice blue roses grow
Along those roads of gold and silver snow
Howlin' wide or moaning low
So many roads I know
So many roads to ease my soul

Re: Grateful Dead
Grateful Dead – Dave’s Picks Vol. 3 (2012)
When keyboardist Keith Godchaux joined the Grateful Dead for the band’s Fall ’71 tour, he changed the group’s sound significantly with his
barrel-house performance style that gave new life to their tunes. Godchaux hit the ground running as many of the shows from that first tour
were outstanding. Yet, over the past 20 years only two performances from that fabled tour have been officially released by the band. With the
release of Dave’s Picks Volume 3, featuring the complete October 22, ’71 concert from Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre on two discs, with a
third disc containing highlights from the previous night, we’ll get to hear a fully remastered recording from Fall ’71.
While much of this collection shows off the beautiful tunes the Dead had just written for Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, the heart of Dave’s Picks Volume 3 is a beast of
a That’s It For The Other One that runs 29 minutes as well as a fantastic Dark Star. There’s also a rare pre-hiatus take on St. Stephen with
Godchaux on keys, one of only three performed with Keith before the tune got shelved.

2. Me and My Uncle [03:21]

Re: Grateful Dead

Bob Weir's Plan to Save the Music Industry
By Susan Berfield on August 02, 2012
Bob Weir, a founding member of the Grateful Dead and an entrepreneurial musician, has started a company he hopes will help other musicians make some money. Tamalpais Research Institute (named for a nearby mountain range and known less formally as TRI Studios) has a state-of the-art recording and broadcast facility in San Rafael, Calif., and a revenue-sharing deal with Yahoo! Music (YHOO) to stream live concerts free to the site’s 39 million viewers.
On Aug. 3, TRI will present “Move Me Brightly,” a birthday celebration in honor of what would have been Jerry Garcia’s 70th (he died in 1995). It will include performances by members of Vampire Weekend, Phish, and The Hold Steady, among others. Weir will perform, too. Actor Luke Wilson is the emcee.
Weir calls the companies providing the revenue patrons, not sponsors. He and Chris McCutcheon, the chief executive of TRI, as well as their ad agency, Swirl Media, are selling the idea of relationships between the brand and the artists. “There’s no specific product, there’s no campaigns, it’s a long-term relationship,” says McCutcheon. TRI and Yahoo will split the revenue from these patronage deals 50-50. Then TRI will give half its share to the artists. The first company to sign on is Carhartt, which makes heavy-duty work clothing. “It’s a favorite of roadies,” McCutcheon says.
He expects to announce other deals in the next couple of weeks with companies he can’t yet name. Except he will say that one of them is a large software company that’s trying to be cool again. (Another hint: It was featured in Vanity Fair recently.) McCutcheon also says that TRI wants to create its own label and eventually stream concerts outside its studios but using the technology by remote. “This is the most open-ended of all my projects,” says Weir. “It has the most possibilities.”
Weir now finds himself in the seemingly comfortable position of helping to run a business. “I’ve been a company man all my life,” he says. “The Grateful Dead was a pretty sizable enterprise. This is how I’m used to working.” Weir bought the building that houses TRI out of foreclosure. It was a rehearsal space in an industrial park on the edge of San Rafael. “It was available for a song and a dance. The studio took on a life of its own. I had no idea what I was doing even as I was doing it,” says Weir. “That would be the Grateful Dead tradition,” says McCutcheon.
The 11,500-square-foot complex includes a main studio built with something called the Meyers Sound Constellation System, which was developed for classical music concert halls by Meyer Sound Laboratories in Berkeley. There are 80 speakers and a couple of dozen microphones placed strategically throughout the 2,000-square-foot space. From a tablet computer on the bandstand, the musicians can create all sorts of different acoustics, from a concert hall to an intimate nightclub. “This is the ultimate playpen for musicians,” says Weir. He spent $5 million on it.
McCutcheon says that the Aug. 3 performance could draw as many as 900,000 unique viewers and reach 20 million over the next two months, when it will be available on demand. “Even if it’s half of that, we’ll be doing well,” says Weir. “We always found that things work if they’re good and everyone is having fun.”

Y por cierto, para Blas o algún otro moderador, se puede unir otra vez todo el tópic? esta ya es la tercera parte y sería una lástima que se perdieran las otras 2

Re: Grateful Dead
In celebration of what would have been Jerry Garcia‘s 70th birthday on Aug. 1, his former guitarist in the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir, has organized a tribute concert for tonight (Aug. 3). The show will take place at Weir’s TRI Studios in San Rafael, Calif., and will be webcast at their website beginning at 9:30PM Eastern.
The concert, called ‘Move Me Brightly,’ will feature Weir and another ex-Dead member, Donna Jean Godchaux, as well as members of modern bands like Phish, the Hold Steady, Vampire Weekend, among others, playing Garcia’s music.
“You find Jerry in the songs,” Weir told Rolling Stone. “And he’s amply there. The beauty of it is how Jerry manifests himself, how he reveals himself, to the individuals.”
During breaks in the performance, a documentary about Garcia will be shown. The video, which contains interviews with members of Garcia’s family, was directed by Justin Kreutzmann, son of Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. The interviews were conducted by actor Luke Wilson.
“I’ve been a fan [of the Grateful Dead] since I was a kid and I got to see them a couple of times and just loved the music, first and foremost,” Wilson told Rolling Stone. “And they also just sounded like a cool organization, not just a rock band. I always kind of liked the idea of them.
